"The Avengers" claimed big victory at the 39th Saturn Awards on Wednesday night, June 26 in Burbank, Calif. Receiving six nods, the Marvel flick eventually brought home four trophies from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, such as Best Science-Fiction Film, Best Supporting Actor (Clark Gregg), Best Director (Joss Whedon) and Best Special Effects.
Tim Burton-directed "Frankenweenie" won in all two categories it was up. The Winona Ryder-starring animation was honored for Best Animated Film and Best Music (Danny Elfman). In other categories, Best Fantasy Film went to "Life of Pi", Best Horror/Thriller was given to "The Cabin in the Woods" and "Skyfall" won Best Action/Adventure.
Up against Jessica Chastain and Helen Mirren, Jennifer Lawrence took home the Best Actress trophy for her performance as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games". Anne Hathaway, meanwhile, snatched Best Supporting Actress title for her role in "The Dark Knight Rises".
"Killer Joe" star Matthew McConaughey was chosen as this year's Best Actor. Suraj Sharma beat the likes of Tom Holland, Chloe Moretz and Quvenzhane Wallis to win Best Performance by a Younger Actor.
The 2013 Saturn Awards additionally revealed the winners in TV categories, including "Revolution" and "Breaking Bad". Special achievement awards were presented as well, including The Visionary Award to author Richard Matheson who died on Sunday.
