Huawei introduces Android "call-enabled" tablet with 7 inch screen

Back in March, we told you about the 7 inch Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue. At the time, we noted that the rendering of the device included an earpiece giving us the idea that perhaps at least one of the models of this series would include calling capabilities. On Monday the Chinese manufacturer announced that the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue will come to market with an aluminum uni-body design, quad-core processor and a 7 inch display.

"Building on the popularity of the Huawei MediaPad series, we’ve created a new tablet that caters to fashionistas, technology seekers, entertainment junkies, and people who simply expect more from their technology. We’re delighted to introduce the MediaPad 7 Vogue, our call-enabled tablet with world-class entertainment capabilities and long-lasting battery power. The MediaPad 7 Vogue is a perfect example of Huawei’s dedication to making extraordinary experiences possible."-Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group

The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue has a 7 inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. Under the hood is a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and a 16-core GPU. A 4100mAh battery keeps the lights on and Huawei's proprietary power saving technology allows users to watch 4 movies in HD or talk for 20 hours on one charge. The antenna on the unit surpasses U.S. and European carrier standards and Emotion UI 1.5 runs on top of Android 4.1. This is not an LTE model, offering HSPA+ connectivity as fast as 42Mbps with Wi-Fi connectivity also supported. The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue brings a new feature to those low-priced 7 inch Android tablets. It's hard to imagine making a phone call on the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire. Will this unit spur those manufacturers into action? Accessories made for the device include a wireless QWERTY keyboard, a mouse and an external flash drive. The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue will be available in black or white and will launch in China this month with other markets to follow afterward.
